Toyota Production System, Third Edition, systematically describes the changes that have occurred to the most efficient production system in use today. Since the publication of the first edition in 1983, Toyota has integrated JIT with computer integrated manufacturing technology, a strategic information system, redesign of assembly lines, and a philosophy that incorporates respect for the workers. Even today, the goals of producing the necessary items, in the necessary quantity at the necessary time are the drivers of JIT. The addition of computer integrated technology, information systems technology, and changes that boost worker morale and improve working conditions serve to further reduce costs, improve quality, and improve cycle time. The Toyota production system condsiders how to adapt production scedules to the demand changes in the marketplace while satisfying the goals of low cost, high quality, timely delivery and improved worker morale. Toyota Production System, Third Edition, is written for both practitioner and academic providing a balanced and broad approach to the Japanese production system.
Thirty years ago, Monden's book was the best on the subject. It was the book that went beyond overview and discussed the specific techniques used by Toyota. I studied this book in depth. This latest addition, now at least twice as long, is still the best book on the specifics of the Toyota Production System.
Throughout of this book you can find specific solutions for a lot of problems in the actual industry. Every single concept is transformed in a new idea with this wonderful tools that you need to learn if you are working at any industry with needs to reduce their waste, costs, improve the assembly lines, etc. As student of a master degree this book allowed me to understand concepts and information about the process of the TPS. Totally worth it.
It's an interesting book if you are looking información related to production systems. It also shows graphics and images that complement the reading part. Toyota is an incredible example (the first one) of production system (implementation).
It is an excellent book.
It is very easy to read and comprehensive.
I like it, I recommend this book.
Clear and deep concept about TPS.
A high quality book for anyone related to planning and managing car production.
Lots of tips anddirections for operating effective assembly line.
Recommended for practitioners, students, professionals and researchers.
I have been practicing the application of Lean principles for 13 years and have read many books on the subject. I thought this book would make a nice addition to the library, but I was mistaken. The book starts out okay, but then seems to lack focus and direction. I am a linear thinker and the book just seemed to jump around. The examples were weak and the illustrations were often times on different pages (frustrating). There are a few nuggets of details, but overall I found the book of little value and would not recommend it to anyone.
On the cover was red blank with white text on it: special Indian edition. Thanks guys, but it was not what I was excited.
Anyway I'll read the book
