I just don't have much good to say about this book. It seems to be just one large collection of examples without coherent theory or even insight, to hang them on.

I can't come up with a good reason to buy this book unless you have an instructor that makes you buy it. It's kind of shocking that this is in version 11. I regret buying this.

Note: The author does have some good books-- in particular "Stochastic Processes" and "A Second Course". This book is just not of that caliber or even close. Save your money if you can.
This is a text written at an undergraduate level which assumes an excellent background in undergraduate probability (i.e., probability density functions, transformations of random variables, etc.) and some familiarity with matrix algebra. If you don't like mathematical equations, derivations and proofs using algebraic manipulation, you will hate this book. The book is written more like a manual of methods and their justifications; do not expect the author to hold your hand throughout every step in every derivation. Extremely comprehensive and very useful for anyone serious about studying probability.
Gives you more than enough information about stuff you don't need to know and very little on the stuff you do need to know.
I used this book for a graduate-level course in Stochastic Processes taught by Dr. Sheldon Ross himself. I must say that I never liked probability and stochastics until I read this book. Reading it is a pleasure! The topics are presented in a highly methodical manner, with plenty of examples and exercises. The exercises are presented in a gradation. Covers a wide range of topics, and is very helpful for a course in stochastics, especially for a student who doesn't have a strong background in P & SP. This is the book to own, don't miss it!
This is my favorite book and doesn't leave my desk. I was surprised to see a few really low reviews, complaining how dense or uneasy this book is. This is NOT a beginners book. This is a graduate level text book that may be taught in TWO semesters! Yes it's dense, and covers variety of advanced probability subjects. Those who find this book too dense and uneasy are better off starting with Sheldon Ross's introductory book (A First Course in Probability).
This book is a mess compared to most math texts. Examples kind of jump all around, and rather than using them to demonstrate theorems; the examples are usually extrapolations of the theorems, making it difficult to follow and learn from. Not a good book if you ask me. (I'm someone who considers themselves a book learner.)
As with all his books, this one is clearly written, with wonderful examples, and an intuitive approach. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in understanding probability and stochastic processes.
I love it. the book is in solid conditions and i got it in a timely fashion. I would recommend him/her!
