In this splendid book-length treatment of the same material, she cuts back and forth between the two sides’ principal players: American immigrant warrior Wernher von Braun and homegrown Soviet hero Sergei Korolev, whose identity was kept secret throughout his remarkable career. Cadbury’s prose is heart-racing as she describes the individual missions, poignant as she acknowledges the loss of American and Soviet lives. Pub Date: May 1st, 2006.

Deborah Cadbury is a British author, historian and television producer with the BBC she won many international awards from her documentaries including an Emmy Award. Cadbury has two sons and lives in London. Cadbury graduated from Sussex University in Psychology and Linacre College, Oxford. Cadbury joined the BBC in 1978 as a trainee. She went on to produce films for the BBC's Horizon strand and won awards for her investigations.

Space Race --Deborah Cadbury. Discussion in 'The Book Club' started by ScottM, Oct 2, 2007. A very good book on the early days of the space race. It looks at each side of the race. I found the insight into what was happening on the Soviet side very interesting. ScottM Taxi to Parking. It deals with the time during WW2 when the two great rocketry people, van Braun and Korelev, were getting their starts. The book then goes through the 1950's and then gets into the what was happening in the 60's. The politics of space flight are dealt with as well as many of the engineering challenges. Any takers let me know. Just ask that you pass it on.
