Gillian Galbraith (Author), Hilary Neville (Reader). Such a lovely surprise.

Gillian Galbraith (Author), Hilary Neville (Reader). Book 1 of 6 in the An Alice Rice Mystery Series.

Hilary Neville delivers a good performance except that the listener has no way of knowing that the story is set in Scotland. One or two characters have very subtle Scottish burrs; the rest have very British accents, so the sense of place is diminished. Overall, though, Neville’s narration is natural and dramatic when called for, and the listener will be engaged right from the beginning. This is a police procedural that leaves the listener with some interesting ethical issues to ponder.

Blood in the Water book. The author, Gillian Galbraith knows a lot about the civil legal scene and it is well worth reading this book if you are looking to get the feel of how the Law works in Edinburgh. Early in the book, the reader becomes aware that we are given a pen potrait of a character, then the murderer strikes. Personally, I do not like this approach.

We follow Edinburgh's latest fictional detective Alice Rice as she races against time and an implacable killer to solve a series of grisly murders amongst Edinburgh's professional elite in the well-to-do New Town.
Last few books I've read were quite disappointing. Fortunately I stumbled upon this little jewel. It starts as potentially predictable serial killer on the loose, novel, but it isn't so. Short at less than 200 pages, sharply drawn, deftly plotted, with every ,even minor character, clean and clear as a bell. I already had 3 next books in the series, and today ordered another one from England. Such a lovely surprise.
Will continue to read the series. Waiting for rest of series to be published.
Good procedural. Always glad to find a new series to read.
This book was well crafted.
Pretty middle of the road book with nothing original in the characters or plot. Really annoyed by all the female characters complaining about how hard it was to find a good man or balance work and life, not that I think either is easy but we don't need to hear about it every chapter. Outcome is very obvious even before most of the facts are revealed.
Character intro's were a bit confusing at first. Once I got them sorted out, I really got into the story. UK law, procedures very confusing to this Yank.
Fantastic author who tells one check of an engrossing story. I'm on to book two of Gillian Galbraith. I highly recommend Blood in the Water.
I enjoy Gillian Galbraith's novels --- they are set in a part of Scotland I am familiar with which adds interest.
I rarely decline to finish a book. I could not finish this one. It was not well-written at all. Lame! And unnecessarily graphic.
