Probably the best book on prayer I've read, and I've read a few. Highly recommend. Emilie Griffin does a wonderful job of communicating the experience of prayer from the inside out.

Probably the best book on prayer I've read, and I've read a few. Well worth reading over and again.

The book arrived even before the expected due day, so shipping was great. I discussed this book with a group of young women much younger than I and gained insight from their take. I left the group vowing to reread several chapters. It is a book with practical information and touching phrases.

Clinging: The experience of prayer Hardcover – 1984. I found this book in the public library in 1989. I was studying the topic of prayer and immediately found this book to be unlike any other I had come across

Clinging: The experience of prayer Hardcover – 1984. by. Emilie Griffin (Author). Find all the books, read about the author, and more. I was studying the topic of prayer and immediately found this book to be unlike any other I had come across. The author does not in any way tell one how to pray, or what to pray, or even how prayer works. She successfully describes what it is to simply do the act of praying.

A beautifully written short book on the experience of prayer.

Simple, elegantly written, and warmly felt invitation to prayer. A beautifully written short book on the experience of prayer. Aug 30, 2007 Stephanie rated it it was amazing. A prayer book is a book containing prayers and perhaps devotional readings, for private or communal use, or in some cases, outlining the liturgy of religious services. A religion's scriptures might also be considered prayer books as well.

Book of Common Prayer (BCP) is the short title of a number of related prayer books used in the Anglican Communion, as well as by other Christian churches historically related to Anglicanism. The original book, published in 1549 in the reign of Edward VI, was a product of the English Reformation following the break with Rome. The work of 1549 was the first prayer book to include the complete forms of service for daily and Sunday worship in English

And, of course, there were books. Books help me define specific moments; I can often invoke a particular episode in my life just by remembering the book I happened to be reading at the time. We few, we brave few, we band of brothers (and sisters), cling to books and reading like a lifeline. The early part of my reading year was saturated with the Brontë sisters: Charlotte, Emily, and Anne.

Prayer books, unlike books of prayers, contain the words of structured (or liturgical) services of worship. The work of 1549 was the first prayer book to include the complete forms of service for daily and Sunday worship in English.

I found this book in the public library in 1989. I was studying the topic of prayer and immediately found this book to be unlike any other I had come across. The author does not in any way tell one how to pray, or what to pray, or even how prayer works. She successfully describes what it is to simply do the act of praying. It's more about how prayer affects us. The author gives words to the side of prayer rarely discussed. It is the side of man approaching prayer. I was in awe when I read it the first time so long ago now, and I still feel that same awe today. A must read for anyone looking for a deeper understanding of themselves and how they relate to God.
I didn't enjoy this book as much as I have treasured "Small Surrendesr" and "green leaves for later years". For me, Richard Foster's book, "prayer: finding the hearts true home" was a more thorough book
Lots of great insights. Probably the best book on prayer I've read, and I've read a few. Highly recommend.

Emilie Griffin has written a beautifully and simply written book on prayer that I would highly recommend. A very short book that has been written for the person that is making prayer too complicated. A very practical book to read more than once. Great little book!
Great book to read or use as a devotional!
Absorbing & Poignant
I had read two quotes from the book and wanted to see the rest. Thank you.
