Call to Remembrance is the first book to tell the story of Bahaullah, the Prophet and Founder of the Bahai Faith. My Baha'i study group is reading Call to Remembrance. We meet weekly and take turns reading out loud, stopping periodically to talk about the passages or discuss questions or issues. We are enjoying the book immensely, and the consensus is that it is a great compilation of various writings that piece together Baha'u'llah's life and struggles.

Students of world religions will appreciate the chance to read about the Founder of one of the fastest growing (and widespread) world religions. Lovers of spiritual poets like Rumi will thrill at the beauty of the writing: On receiving revelation from God: I was but a man like others, asleep upon My couch, when lo, the breezes of the All-Glorious were wafted over Me, and taught Me the knowledge of all that hath been.

Call of remembrance has been prepared to help bahais in their personal observance of the holy year and to introduce the charter of Baha'ullah's life and ministry to others whose curiosity has been aroused. The book brings together passages from the wide range of Baha'ullah's writings to relate in his own words many of the events of his life. Taken together, the extracts offer an intimate approach to the life of a figure who, in the words of shoghi effendi, Baha'ullah's great grand son, towers forever above us, 'preeminent in holiness, awesome in the majesty of his strength and power, unapproachable in the transcendent brightness of his glory'.

Call to remembrance is organised around the four phases of Baha'ullahs life enumerated by shoghi effendi. Part 1 concerns Baha'ullah's childhood and youth, which spanned the years 1817-1844, a 27 year period "characterized by the carefree enjoyment of all the advantages conferred by high birth and riches. Part 2 covers a period "of active and exemplary discipleship" in the service of his forerunner, the Bab. Part 3 focuses n Baha'ullahs four month imprisonment during 1853 in the siyah chal. Part 4 reviews Baha'ullahs thirty nine year ministry from 1853 through to 1892. Part 5 examines Baha'ullahs provision for the extension into the future of the divine authority over the affairs of the faith.

Call to remembrance is not a biography, nor is it a history. Rather it offers a view of Baha'ullahs life told mostly in his own words, a view that draws one closer to his will and purpose and leads to what the Universal house of justice describes as the "rendezvous of the soul with the source of its light and guidance," that "retreat to ones's innermost being, to the dwelling place of the spirit of Baha, that interior to which he summons us when he says: "Turn thy sight unto thyself, that thou mayest find me standing within thee, mighty, powerful, and self-subsisting."
It has gathered key quotes from Baha'u'llah and put them in a timeline connected with events organized as per Shongi Effendi. Thank you thank you thank you! I love it!

The book arrived on time and was in great shape - only a little tear on the inside of the front cover but looks to otherwise have been unused.
