The 5th book in the Magic Kindom of Landover series by Terry Brooks. The original three in this series were brilliant - new concept and so well written. This was right up there with the best. I recommend reading the whole series to make the bedt of this even though each book can be read individually.

Witches' Brew, much like it's predecessors in the Magic Kingdom of Landover series, is akin to a contemporary fairy tale; and if that's what you're expecting, you'll surely be delighted. A direct sequel to The Tangle Box, Witches' Brew tells the tale of Mistaya, the unique child of the human king Ben Holiday and the sylvan creature Willow, as she faces her first challenge; which may or may not involve the witch with a personal vendetta against the King, Nightshade.

Born a seedling and nourished by soil from Landover, Earth and the fairy mists, Mistaya is a unique child, fully as dazzling as her mother, the sylph, Willow - but fiery and impatient with those who can't keep up with her lightning-fast development. But Ben's idyll is not to last. The dark and pitiless Rydall, king of lands beyond the fairy mists, arrives at the gates of Sterling Silver. His armies are ready to invade if Ben will not accept his challenge: to face and defeat seven different champions of Rydall's choice.

The Magic Kingdom of Landover, which he ruled as High Lord, was finally at peace, and he and his wife, the sylph Willow, could watch their daughter Mistaya grow. And grow she did - shooting through infancy in months, learning to walk and to swim in the same week. Mistaya had been born a seedling, nourished by soils from Landover, Earth, and the fairy mists, come into being in the dank, misty deadness of the Deep Fell. Some counseled the High Lord to refuse Rydall's challenge, but Holiday could not, for Mistaya had been snatched from her guardians by foul magic. And Rydall held the key to her fate . . .
