Surveying American Indian women artists from more than 40 tribes across the United States and Canada, this beautifully illustrated volume features 120 full-color reproductions of their work.

Celebrating the many artistic contributions of Native American women to American life, a colorfully illustrated survey of paintings by Indian women covers more than forty tribes, from the Indian-School artists of the early twentieth century to the most contemporary painters working today.
This is an interesting book full of biographical information about various women American Indian painters and a little bit about ceramic artists and potters as well. There are a lot of full-color photos of works of art covering the twentieth century and displaying a wide variety of styles. I'm using the book as research for a novel I intend to write next year, with a character who is a female American Indian painter. It's a rich resource and a source of pleasure as I learn about various female artists and check out their styles of art. Many tribes are represented, and the entire twentieth century is covered. If you're into the Indians or Indian arts or painting, this is a good book to get. You can pick it up for a couple of bucks on Amazon's used book marketplace, so it's inexpensive, and it will give you hours of enjoyment. A good value and rich in information.
Great resource to have!!
This is an excellent book filling a gap in explorations of American Indian art. The selection of artists and works is very well done. My wife, who is an artist herself, has found the book to be of great value to her. As an avid reader of all things American Indian I too found the book to be of great value. Patricia Janis Broder has contributed an inspiring and rare look at American Indian women artists.
