This newly updated bestseller features a free Internet companion, a state-of-the-art website (including interactive case studies, practice tests and downloadable graphics), and a new "Cutting Edge" feature highlighting topics that have taken center stage in the field of abnormal psychology within the last two years. The Updated Edition supplements reflect changes in text. The Study Guide, Test Bank, and Instructor's Manual each have an "update booklet" shrink-wrapped to them, providing new questions for students, new discussion questions for instructors, and new test bank questions. Changes to the tenth edition include: chapter on sexual disorders was reworked and the authors added coverage of sexual abuse of children and the reliability of memories; coverage of historical and cross-cultural issues that affect views of what is normal and abnormal.
As described.
This is a great book if you have the right teacher. The book is very informative yet if you have no back ground in abnormal psych you might want to make sure the teacher for your course is capable of explaining it to you. I also recomend that you make sure your copy has a CD rom. The study guide and website are great tools too. They help a lot.
Great book, but never used for the course it was intended, so I did not get too deep into the reading.
I studied under this guy. He's a genius and also a great human being. Personally I would recommend reading the sources themselves. Carson himself was a fantastic character.
Though this book does present all the necessary information for learning about abnormal psychology, it's the dryest, most aesthetically difficult to read textbook... especially if you happen to be studying the material online/through independent study. The publisher needs to redesign the book and/or you need to have a better online course professor. It feels nearly impossible to be interested in this material (which is interesting in itself) if you have to read the textbook front to back on your own without any instruction.
This book was horrible for one reason: the enormous bias with indirect implications against Muslims and Palestinians. There is a line in the book which says that Muslims and Buddhists cherish grief in their religions. The bias of the book was incredible allowing Israelis to appear as victims in multiple studies in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict when they have continued to oppress/kill/occupy Palestinians with the third best military in the world with US aid. These authors have written this textbook with an agenda. Anyone who has an agenda can persuade readers of intellect to believe that what they say is true. I advise everyone who reads to read it with caution. Anyone who is studying psychology should invest some time in understanding the truth about people they study in textbooks. If we want to understand human behavior and help people, we cannot stand by oppression. I agree that the book presented factual information that was helpful in understanding psychological disorders. However, I was distracted by the obvious hatred and prejudices written between the lines.
I am taking abnormal psychology course at the University of Brithsh Columbia, Canada. I really enjoyed reading this book because it is very informative and thought provoking and really made me abnormalities of the human being. I really liked the case examples. It takes a bit of time to read chapters but it worth the time.
