Shadows fall over the emptying stadium. On the concrete terracing, a few fleeting bonfires burn, while the lights and voices fade. The stadium is left alone and the fan, too, returns to his solitude: to the I who had been we. The fan goes off, the crowd breaks up and melts away, and Sunday becomes as melancholy as Ash Wednesday after the death of Carnival. The fanatic is a fan in a madhouse. I vividly recall reading this book in the 1st Grade back in 1983, and so I was thrilled to find it on Amazon.com so I could buy it to teach my 1st grade daughter how to read 33 years later. The stories are still as captivating and the illustrations are lovely. They had to be good, or I wouldn't have remembered them so well for so many years. The book I bought may be a 1979 original, but the content is more charming and colorful than the books my daughter is reading in school today. So glad I was able to find it!
I had this book as a child... and I kept recite the very first poem in this book and was determined to find it. I couldn't initially remember what it was called, but I'm so excited I found this book. When I have children I can't wait to share the stories with them.
. I read these books when I was in first grade in the 80's. My sons love it, even after 30 plus years
My students love this book. It is great for reading comprehension and sight word review. My students love the illustrations!
