Borys Hrinchenko, born 1863 at Vilkhovyi Yar khutir in Kharkiv county, died 1910 in Ospedaletti, Italy. The artistic Ukrainian movement (Mystetskyi ukrainskyi rukh) was an artistic-literary organization of Ukrainian emigres in Europe. Prominent public figure, educator, writer, folklorist, and linguist. For 10 years he taught in elementary schools in Kharkiv gubernia and Katerynoslav gubernia. It was founded on 25 September 1945 in Furth, Germany, on the initiative of a committee consisting of Ivan Bahriany, V. Domontovych (Viktor Petrov), Yurii Kosach, Ihor Kostetsky, Ivan Maistrenko, and Yu. Sherekh (George Yurii Shevelov).

Ukraine, although stateless for most of the twentieth century, is no different in this regard from other lands. Through decades of tremen-dous political and social changes, Ukrainian literature has reflected the transitions in Ukrainian life.
