The city’s Landmarks Preservation Commission is considering designating it as a landmark. Save for the Strand, the city’s biggest and most famous indie book shop, nearly all the rest is long gone, like the small-town, scruffy Village of the 1970s. George Etheredge for The New York Times. Author is incredible and writes with amazing compassion. Tremendous historian. Feels like I am right there reading this fascinating history. Will buy anything and everything this author/historian writes. Thanks for making history come alive. Lloyd Carrera
Exhaustively researched, this rambling narrative is a treasure of stories and scenes from Ybor's fascinating history. Unfortunately, it is a bloated, wordy account with many repetitions - a sleek and edited history would be a much better read. Although the book spans into the 21st century, most of the details stop around 1980. The subsequent three decades are less a narrative than minutes from various Tampa City Council meetings. As someone who has spent the last 25 years in Ybor, there is much more to be written about.
Frank Lastra has put years of his life into creating a record of life in the unique immigrant community of Ybor City, Tampa. It was worth the wait.

Living in Tampa this book is a must. I first saw it on the table at my attorneys office and I had to order on for myself and one for a Christmas gift. The best history book and great pictures of Ybor City Tampa
