Time is running out: please help the Internet Archive today. That's right, all we need is the price of a paperback book to sustain a non-profit library the whole world depends on. We’re dedicated to reader privacy so we never track you.

Back in 1966, Adam was the driver in an accident that killed a beautiful young woman, Sascha Maclaren; he hasn’t felt human since, though he has gone on to amass an extraordinary fortune. Blind chance tugs Lewis’s characters this way and that, and a happenstance meeting in Manhattan between the lonely bachelor billionaire and Sascha’s beautiful sister Maisie leads to their marriage (both are now in their 50s).

Jeffrey Lewis is the author of Adam the King, for which he won various awards, including the Independent . Wandering around this year's BEA I came upon the author of this lovely book, Jeffrey Lewis.

Jeffrey Lewis is the author of Adam the King, for which he won various awards, including the Independent Publishers Gold Medal for Literary Fiction. He also won two Emmys and a Writer's Guild Award for his work as a writer and producer on Hill Street Blues. After I read his work I realized that the writer and the book were very similiar in character and style-both generous to the reader, unpretentious, open-hearted in the best ways. Theme Song for an Old Show is an entertaining narrative, full of unique moments and honest longings.

I'm starting work to put together a cross-country USA tour in November 2019, when our new album (as "Jeffrey Lewis & The Voltage") will finally be out!

com - thanks! Jeffrey (& Mem & Brent). NOTE: This is only our INTENDED routing

From the publisher: The wedding of billionaire Adam Bloch and Maisie Maclaren is the event of the year in Clement’s Cove, Maine-a town in which the mansion-like ‘cottages’ of the summering elite sit side-by-side with the modest homes of working-class locals. Adam, a shy, tentative man with a terrible tragedy in his past, has, at fifty-four, reached the moment in his life when he feels he is finally ready to live-and yet he doesn’t quite know what to do with himself

A brilliantly conceived page-turner. A young Jewish woman goes to Berlin after the fall of the Wall, finding a world of possibilities and deception.

The wedding of billionaire Adam Bloch and Maisie Maclaren is the event of the year in Clement's Cove, Maine–a town in which the mansion-like "cottages" of the summering elite sit side-by-side with the modest homes of working-class locals. Adam, a shy, tentative man with a terrible tragedy in his past, has, at fifty-four, reached the moment in his life when he feels he is finally ready to live–and yet he doesn't quite know what to do with himself. When Maisie asks for a lap pool so she can strengthen her body, debilitated by years of Hodgkin's disease, Adam approaches his neighbor with a generous offer to buy the plot of land on which her trailer sits to make room for the pool. She refuses, and a chain of events is set in motion that pits Adam against his neighbors, the new rich against those scraping by, outsider against old-timer, in an escalating struggle that can only end in catastrophe. Taut, swift, and startling, Adam the King depicts the inexorability of fate against the backdrop of the money-mad '90s, the emptiness of raging ambition and the fallout of the drift toward conservative politics and values.
Wonderful novel that will stay with you long after you read it. Lewis evokes the atmosphere of a tiny Maine town to perfection - trust me - I've lived in one! Fascinating characters, beautifully imagined, with erudite writing.

PS - You don't need to have read the other novels in the collection - I haven't yet - this one stands alone.
This book was so poorly written I couldn't get past the first ten pages. How is it that such bad books can get published?
