He bolted to a sitting position, excited but cautious. Let’s have that name again. She repeated it, then added, But it used to be Ivey Dwindling.

A Fabergé egg (Russian: Яйца Фаберже́, yaytsa faberzhe) is a jewelled egg created by the House of Fabergé, in St. Possibly as many as 69 were created, of which 57 survive today. Virtually all were manufactured under the supervision of Peter Carl Fabergé between 1885 and 1917, the most famous being the 52 "Imperial" eggs, 46 of which survive, made for the Russian Tsars Alexander III and Nicholas II as Easter gifts for their wives and mothers.

Learning that someone with a grudge against him has kidnapped his ex-wife and daughter, private investigator Amos McGuffin battles the KGB and ex-Nazi officers and searches for the elusive Faberge Egg--the demanded ransom
The author's writing mechanics were excellent, hence four stars. He uses very little sex scenes and foul language to move the story along. (Thank you, sir!) McGuffin, a PI working out of San Francisco, must find a Faberge Egg to ransom for his supposedly kidnapped ex-wife and daughter. In his quest, he leaves six people dead in California and hops a plane to New York City where he hopes to find his ex and their daughter. I hope there is a sequel. Otherwise, I will worry about what has become of McGuffin.

Thank you, Mr. Upton, for a good read.
What a crazy, quirky ride. I really liked the fast pace and all the crazy characters! Amos is old school! A real PI like Archie of Nero Wolfe fame! I enjoyed it , and I would really like to be there when he gets to New York! Go get her Amos!!
Such a fun and surprising read, with colorful characters and plot twists throughout. It kept me in suspense right up till the end. I grew up in the Bay Area, and Upton's vivid writing made me feel as if I had been transported back to the San Francisco/Napa Valley of my youth. Highly recommended!
Enjoyed the book but it took some time to develop. Had some difficulty in determining where the story was going and who was going with it. Fortunately the author tied it together in the end. It is a good read with bits of interesting history.
Riding around San Francisco with Amos McGuffin is great fun. Mr. Upton's style is smooth and stylish, lots of interesting characters with an unusual plot. I have read all the McGuffins and wish there were more!!
It's one of the most exciting e-books I've read in a long time, if not the most, and I've had quite my fill of them!

Loved the way the story was told, keeping my focus and turning page after page, and scrounging for time to come back to it.
I enjoyed this book and it's characters, falls somewhere between a mystery and a cozy. the last twist in the plot took me by surprise and that is always a plus.
This was an enjoyable read (actually read it in one sleepless night) and had enough twists and turns to be intriguing. A little differnet from the general run of mysteries.
