Suchen Christine Lim has a wonderful ear for Singlish vernacular, and it's this she puts to good use as she writes these sensitive, hilarious 'stories of the unsung, unsaid, and uncelebrated in Singapore'. Suchen Christine Lim is a noted local author. I have always been keen to support local literature so when I spotted a copy at ANA bookstore second hand but relatively new, I snapped it up. In one word, I was disappointed. My favourite book by this author, a work that avoids the whole agenda of writing one's society into being, and deals with the smaller, but more moving truths, of private dramas and secret betrayals - and all still within a familiarly local context.
