Haywood Smith; Read by Cynthia Darlow. Listen to this audiobook excerpt from Haywood Smith's novel Wedding Belles. The New York Times bestselling author of The Red Hat Club fearlessly takes on mothers and daughters, wedding madness, and midlife passion in this frank, funny, and fabulous novel. Georgia, Linda, Diane, Teeny, and Pru have been best friends since high school, and never have they needed one another more.

Cynthia Darlow did an excellent performance in this audio book. This book was just okay. I found it hard to really get into the book and like the characters. It seemed very predictable and that made me not as interested in reading it.

I listened to the audio CD ready by Cynthia Darlow and she was perfect. Published on April 21, 2014.

I bought this book to read during summer vacation in Charleston, SC. It was so hard to put down that I finished the book within a few days! The book definitely kept me guessing as to what with happen with Callie and Wade or Callie and her mother. The women's friendships are also priceless, and anyone with a group of close girl friends will be able to identify with it.

Georgia’s precious twenty-eight-year-old daughter, Callie, has gone and gotten engaged. Usually this would be cause for celebration. After all, this is the South, where dreams of white dresses and wedding bells are as important as finding the perfect hat. But Callie’s intended groom just happens to be a man they went to high school and college with: Wild Man Wade! These women know more about the groom than the bride does. His drunken shenanigans. His wild oats. And all of his conquests as well as his mistakes. They can imagine him in the most inappropriate of circumstances, but not as a son-in-law!

With absolutely hilarious Southern observances and dead-on wit about mothers, daughters, marriage, and families, Wedding Belles will have you laughing and crying whether you live above or below the Mason-Dixon line.

Five of my favorite fictional characters,Georgia,Linda,Diane,Teeny and Pru are back in a funny, heartbreaking ,nerve wracking and ultimately soul inspiring story(did I mention hilarious???) and I loved it! Haywood writes so well that her characters come to life and I dearly wish these women were real because they'd be a blast at parties and weddings! I'm gradually trying to make sure I have every single one of Haywood's books because they are just that good and I hope she keeps writing for a long time! Buy "Wedding Belles", Callie will make you want to hug your own daughter and Madelyn and Rachel( you have to read to understand) will make you grateful for your own extended family and friends.
Sometimes when you finish a book, you miss the characters. It is like seeing an old friend when you have another book come out with the same characters. In the last Red Hat book, SuSu was getting her law degree, working on recovering from a drinking problem, and she got married at the end of the book. Where is she now? There is absolutely no mention of her in this book even though she was clearly a main character in the other two. They never mention her name even though anyone who has read the other two books must be wondering the same thing. What in the world happened to SuSu?
Absolutely true picture of southern women and their beliefs. If you have ever lived in the south you know the truth. If you haven't read the book. This is the way they believe and behave in the south. It is after all the Bible Belt. I laughed out loud in many spots but I also cried when Elena's letters were read. If you have read the two lead up novels this is a perfect step in the series. If you haven't read the Red Hat books this book can stand on it's own. It is about a mother's love and trying to protect her only daughter from heartbreak and the consequences of doing that! An excellent book.
This book was funny, entertaining and definitely tells it like all MAMA's feel when their little girl gets married, especially when you are not sure about the groom. It also shows be careful what you wish for it just might happen. I would recommend it to anyone but would suggest you read the red hat books 1st then the characters are more familiar and makes understanding the succession of events clearer.
It's always nice to have an author that delivers dependable cheerful prose. Ms. Smith delivers a tale of the days leading up to a wedding she is not happy to attend. With her classic southern charm she carries the reader through the emotional ride with humor and a critical eye on her own behavior--reminding the reader of her own vulnerabilities.
Have loved everything Haywood Smith has written! Arrived as described.
I own all of the Red Hat books, so I was excited to receive Wedding Belles. I was really disappointed with this book. I found it a bit of a let down. The spark of friendship that exists between the women in the Red Hat series seemed forced in Wedding Belles. Also, where was SuSu in this book? No explanation or reason for her absense. (Did I miss something?) All in all it was just ok at best.
My daughter is getting married, the last one .......who will so become one of two.
At one time I had a group of friends that got together for " girl time" but life happens and we let other priorities take over our lives. This book inspires me to find time for my friends and circle the wagons for love and support.
Lastly, it reminds me to stay close to my faith and all things are possible ; resentment only hurts your heart and stymies your growth... So forgive, laugh and love.
