This book was great for someone like me who was unfamiliar with fundamental concepts of law that professors might assume you know before starting law school. Short and well-written, I felt well equipped for my 1L year and referred back to this book periodically in the first semester.

College of Law. This book is full of useful information and is a really good resource, but the organization of the book could be improved. There are incredibly dense sections of the book, followed by just brief overviews, making it sometimes hard to follow

College of Law. There are incredibly dense sections of the book, followed by just brief overviews, making it sometimes hard to follow. The tables and graphics used can be very helpful, especially for visual learners. It will most likely be a more useful as reference material than it was as a complete-read.

It very clearly introduces the legal system of this country and supplies me with substantive knowledge about law education. Some of them you had better know prior to making your decision about going to law school. Some of them you have to know and remember when you are a law student.

About the content:
Well structured and organized. Form the legal system to the enforceable laws, and to the abstract topics. Everything is interpreted clearly.
It supplies us with related questions in every section so that we may use these questions to testify our understanding immediately.
The language used by the author is not too complicated and professional, I believe everyone is able to get insight if you read it closely.
Read it when you are not sure whether law school is right for you. And your decision will be more reasonable.
I was required to read this book before going to law school, and I thought it was very VERY VERY dry. This book covers the American system of government, how laws were made, types of laws, and a review of American history. I majored in Political Science in college and was/still am a history nerd, so reading the entire chapter about American history was redundant, although I HIGHLY recommend it for those who have no idea how America was founded, or for those who need a refresher. The 1L of a Ride book was MUCH more humorous and informative as to the law student herself/himself, i.e. how to write notes, what to expect during orientation, how to study for exams, etc. I would start with that book first before delving into this dry book. 1L of a Ride had humor and personality. The only personable quality this book had was a story about a lawyer being employed at a firm, but taking another offer somewhere else. Other than that, I would much rather recommend 1L of a Ride.
OK book but talks about a lot of obvious things college grads should already know
This book offers a great way to remove some of the anxiety and uncertainty of starting law school. It is a quick and easy read. I thouht it was worthwhile. If ounare investing ens of thousands of dollars in our education, why not read this easy overview to make you feel more confident? It will solve or introduce many of the things you will come across but it will help ease the transition.
