I was fortunate enough to have the casebook written by Blum, the author of this supplement, and reading this book substantially helped with a deeper understanding of the subject

I was fortunate enough to have the casebook written by Blum, the author of this supplement, and reading this book substantially helped with a deeper understanding of the subject. Even if using a different Contracts casebook, I would still recommend this supplement.

Brian Blum’s textbook Contracts: Examples & Explanations Excerpts: The following excerpts are selected as what we deem to be the most important basic concepts that apply in our coarse of dealings with debt eradication procedures, criminal set off technology, and any Secured.

Strictly speaking, this is inaccurate terminology.

A favorite among successful students, and often recommended by professors, the unique Examples & Explanations series gives you extremely clear introductions to concepts followed by realistic examples that mirror those presented in the classroom throughout the semester. Use at the beginning and midway through the semester to deepen your understanding through clear explanations, corresponding hypothetical fact patterns, and analysis. Then use to study for finals by reviewing the hypotheticals as well as the structure and reasoning behind the accompanying analysis. Designed to complement your casebook, the trusted Examples & Explanations titles get right to the point in a conversational, often humorous style that helps you learn the material each step of the way and prepare for the exam at the end of the course.

The unique, time-tested Examples & Explanations series is invaluable to teach yourself the subject from the first day of class until your last review before the final. Each guide:

helps you learn new material by working through chapters that explain each topic in simple languagechallenges your understanding with hypotheticals similar to those presented in classprovides valuable opportunity to study for the final by reviewing the hypotheticals as well as the structure and reasoning behind the corresponding analysisquickly gets to the point in conversational style laced with humorremains a favorite among law school studentsis often recommended by professors who encourage the use of study guidesworks with ALL the major casebooks, suits any class on a given topicprovides an alternative perspective to help you understand your casebook and in-class lectures

I am very glad to use this as my study guide for contracts. Typically, I have a difficult time interpreting the cases I read and the language of this book just completely breaks down each aspect of every category. The index is very simple to find the topic your class is working on to jump right to that section. A few people I know swear by the hornbook and in my opinion, the only benefit of the hornbook is that it is shortened down. However, though the examples&explanations is a big lengthy, it will not leave you confused once you finish your section.
This book was very useful and did a great job setting out the rules for contracts and going into depth with them. Sometimes I would be unclear on something after class, and once I read about it in this book it really cleared things up. Same problem as the other E+E's is that it doesn't cover everything, but it comes pretty close. Also, you don't need to spend extra on the new version, this version is just as good in my opinion. Although this book is not perfect, it is the best supplement I've seen out there. However, keep in mind the supplement's usefulness depend on your teacher and what they are looking for in their exams. Therefore, if your teacher hasn't recommended one to the class, I would go ahead and buy one of these babies.
I'm a big fan of the Law in a Flash series. These cards make for a great supplemental study aid. The best feature, in my opinion, is the "scenario" questions. These are like mini-fact patterns designed to get you thinking about one particular issue. I've found these to help get my mind around particular topics in a format conducive to an essay style exam (which all of my instructors use). I do wish that the cards had some more "concept w/definition" cards (where one side gives a word, concept, or issue, and the answer side has a rote definition), but it's not a major issue. I also do think that there was a bit too much repetition at times, and the product could have been pared down a bit. But maybe that repetition helps some people, despite annoying people like me.
great for explanations if you are not getting the concepts from class
This is a great book - I agree with the previous review - Blum does meander & his humor is wasted on those who have lost all capacity for humor ( law students ) - when I read funny - I think I wish this guy would put this effort into concise. Regardless - this is the best book on Contracts out there. The problem hypos are based on casebook cases. - Emmanuels & Gilberts bite ( but they do have evey case you havent read ). Probably a close tie would be the Sum & Substance by Brain - this is almost as good as Blum - better on some topics like the Parol Evidence rule - has a flow chart etc..
This book is great! But it's thorough.. which means you actually have to take the time to sit down and read all of it in order to get the gist of each chapter. This isn't something that can be skimmed a couple days before an final exam. I think it would work really well as a 1L prep book - I know I wish I had read it earlier!
Great resource for a cut-and-dry understanding of the rules. The explanations of the examples in this E&E are particularly helpful. The only downside is the shortage of UCC information.

Know that this -- as well as any other E&E -- isn't a hornbook. You won't get much case law, and you won't get a full outline. This is a great resource for filling in gaps in your knowledge, but don't treat it as your only source in preparing for a Contracts final.
I bought this book hoping it will held give me clear and easy rules that my casebook (Allan Farnsworth) doesn't have. Unfortunately, this book is as dense as the casebook so no use to me. If you expect easy to understand, crisp, clear statements of the law, you will be disappointed. If this was a textbook, I would probably give it 5 stars, but as a supplement its utility is limited.
