This book is the third in the series of "Voyage of the Basset"-and possibly the best! It's about a boy named Brad who believes in Progress. He also believes in helping others: except somehow his experiments always seem to go wrong. One day he meets Lucy, a poor girl who works as a servant at the boarding school he goes to. He decides to "improve" her mind-except he kinda forgot to ask her first

Series: Voyage of the Basset (Book 3). Paperback: 224 pages. Definitely the worst of the Voyage series. What is depicted on the cover and in the book description has very little to do with the actual story, so I was extremely disapointed.

Series: Voyage of the Basset (Book 3). Publisher: Random House Books for Young Readers (August 22, 2000). You tend to hate Brad, and when he comes to his big "realization" you don't care. Raven Queen and Islands in the Sky had the same tone and feel of the original book, but this one is "blah" and boring.

Voyage of the Basset is a fantasy novel published in 1996. It was written and illustrated by James C. Christensen in collaboration with Renwick St. James and Alan Dean Foster. It is about a widowed Victorian era professor, Algernon Aisling, his two daughters, Miranda and Cassandra, and their adventure on a ship called the Basset. The other books are The Raven Queen by Ellen Steiber and Terri Windling (October 1999), Journey To Otherwhere by Sherwood Smith (August 2000), Thor's Hammer by Will Shatterly (December 2000), and Fire Bird by Mary Frances Zambreno (June 2001).

Journey to Otherwhere book. The third book in the Voyage of the Basset series, and another new set of characters and bringing the reader to learn more of the mysterious, mythical world. Once again, I greatly enjoyed it!

She sighed, and began to pick up the books. May as well haul them all back now, and get it done. She’d have to clean her room out anyway, for this spring she was expected to write up her journeymage project, petition the Magic Council through Master Halfrid, and then get to work. In addition to her other studies. And helping at the School.

The book works best if the reader is familiar with Christensen's original Voyage of the Basset, which explains the importance of the necklace, and the magical world into which the Basset sails

Bradford Ellis believes in progress-and in fixing other people's problems. The book works best if the reader is familiar with Christensen's original Voyage of the Basset, which explains the importance of the necklace, and the magical world into which the Basset sails. The two children are surprisingly complex for so brief a tale. For once the protagonists are not fighting against Impossible Evil, but against their own weaknesses. But it's not didactic.

Bradford Ellis believes in progress--and in fixing other people's problems. His latest case study, a poor seamstress named Lucy Beale, resents his meddlesome attempts to improve her life. But when a small, stately ship--the Basset--sails into the harbor, Brad and Lucy must journey together to the Lands of Legend. There, the transformative Chimera challenges their assumptions and awakens their imaginations. In this land where fantasy rules and nothing is as it seems, Brad must learn to respect others' boundaries and Lucy must learn to overcome hers.
