This is the seventh book of the Merlin Missions, where Jack and Annie . Mary Pope Osborne does a great job with the Magic Tree House series. After we had finished reading Dragon of the Red Dawn Sean asked me to check out a book of Basho's poetry.

This is the seventh book of the Merlin Missions, where Jack and Annie help Merlin the Magician discover one of the four secrets of happiness. In this book Jack and Annie travel back to the village of Edo in ancient Japan during the 1600's, where they learn about samurai and meet Master Basho, a famous haiku poet. Great book for any upper elementary to middle school reader. Engaging and easy to read. Ties in historical information and characters in a way that's enjoyable for the whole family. Would definitely recommend for any one who wants to get their child interested in history and literature.
My son started reading this series at school, he was so interested i've kept buying the next book and he loves reading them. Great book series!
I bought this book to read with my 8 year old son as part of his homeschool curriculum. He really enjoyed it! We are studying the Middle Ages this year and this book went along perfectly with our history study.
Got this for my first grader. He loves the magic tree house series, and was excited to get this title. He has kept it in his backpack and reads it when he has free time. It has definitely kept him interested.
good to read with the grand children.
This wonderful adventure with a Japanese poet was added to our collection just in time. An article ran about him in National Geographic, and my eldest son would not have had a clue who he was if he had not read this book. I think it is delightful how Mary Pope Osborne uses these texts to expose children to places, ideas and situations that might not otherwise be accessible to them. Definitely pick up this title, and if you haven't already done so, buy the rest as well!
The adventure continues! My kiddos loved this adventure!
Daughter loved this book. Even though it was a class read, she has read it over and over.
