Scott Foresman Social Studies (é2003) components for Grade 3.
This textbook is great for homeschoolers! The book is filled with beautiful pictures, well-written lessons. The book is divided into chapters and units, and there's also extras in each chapter. I prefer to not buy any more books or teachers mannuals than necessary, and this line of textbooks accomadates that preference. I choose to use the review questions at the end of each unit, and the comprehensive review at the end of each chapter for the tests. Don't hesitate to buy this book for your homeschool needs, IF you can find it for a reasonable price second-hand.
I gave this a five star rating because I love this book. It is very easy to read and understand, and my third grader is excited by it. The book covers every aspect of the study of communities. If you are looking for a great way to start your homeschooling experience I highly recommend this text book.
My second grader is using this textbook this year for her homeschooling. I have her answer any questions she comes across in her writing journal and we discuss together. Great text, colorful vibrant pages. Well worth what we paid for it.
A decent book, used, in good shape, and was very affordable. 25 cents plus about $4 shipping. Wow, right? This communities book focused on Chicago for the big city example, so would be especially good for kids in the Chicago area.
Perfect addition to my homeschool curriculum.
This book is excellent. I am using it in 3rd grade social studies for homeschool. I bought the companion workbook to go along with it as well.
We're just finishing up Unit 1 and this text is a hit. It is comprehensive and fun to work in. I really like how it takes us to different communities and ethnic groups, while staying true to the fundamentals of geography and civics.

We also have the Teacher's Edition, Workbook and Assessment Book (tests). You can find them used on Amazon. Even if you don't get the exact year or edition, there is very little difference.

If you get the TE, you'll be supplied with all the answers in the textbook, workbook and assessment book. You'll also get lots of cool extra activity ideas and links to make the teaching really sink in.

We're based in Chicago and find it cool that they feature our city in the first chapter (smile).

Even though the 2003 edition may seem to be "old," the core of the entire book is unchanged through today (civics, geography, biography, etc). We make up for the gap of "new" with a subscription to Scholastic News (or Weekly Reader if you prefer).
