I have been using Adelle Davis' book, Let's Cook It right for about 40 years. I am getting a replacement copy now as my old book turned yellow and the pages are cracking and falling out. The most used portion of the book is on slow cooking

I have been using Adelle Davis' book, Let's Cook It right for about 40 years. The most used portion of the book is on slow cooking. Everyone says my roast turkey on Thanksgiving is very juicy and flavorful. I use Davis' formula for slow cooking and put it in the oven overnight. The timing is just right for an early dinner the next day. Davis explains that the proteins are precipitated at higher temperatures and meat becomes tough.

Possibly the best cookbook ever written. Why? Because Adelle Davis tells you what is NOT good for you as well as what IS good for you, and she did it back in the 1960's when, for me, it really counted! Thanks to this book I have NOT made refined white flour, refined sugar, or processed meats a part of my diet since I got out of the military service in 1964. I am 73 years old, and possibly the only one of my generation who has not had a triple-bypass by now. My wife of 48 years has used the principles and recipes of this book for all of those years and we are both lean and healthy from 'cooking it right.' I have bought two copies of this book to pass on to my children and grandchildren. I love the recipes (her baked whole-wheat bread recipe is the best I have ever come across!) THANK YOU Adelle Davis!!

Davis explains that the proteins are precipitated at higher temperatures and meat becomes tough. She includes a chart for various types of meats with temperature and cooking times stated, both for normal and slow cooking methods. Her slow cooking method is a no-fail recipe. You cant go wrong with it. She is also promoting healthy eating way before it became so fashionable nowadays. Simple and easy to follow. But don't expect the softcover book to last more than 40 years; you'll have to get a replacement.
Everybody should have this cookbook. She tells you why cooking techniques work, but unlike Joy of Cooking, she's interested in healthy recipes. These days, there are a lot of healthy recipe books. When this was written, there weren't. She gives lots of suggestions for modifying her recipes. One very notable feature of this book is that there's an entire chapter on meat (beef), on the cuts & why it cooks as it does. These days, so many people eat no or little beef that maybe the chapter's not as valuable. She also uses sugar in her recipes (although many are easily modified). Still a good cookbook to have.
A classic cookbook that I've used since the 1970s. Mine was lost in a recent move, so this was the replacement. It came shrink-wrapped, and in nearly new condition, and it is just what I needed.
This was my "Bible" when I was learning to cook 50 years ago. The techniques for slow-cooking meat and fowl in the oven are especially helpful. Has the easiest recipe for no-fuss cooking of turkey that I have seen anywhere. Years and years ahead of its time. Just bought another copy to give to a nephew as a bonus wedding gift
Many insights into eating healthy and useful recipes. Davis was a guru in this area and this book is still highly relevant today. I bought it to replace mine that wore out.
Every one should get this book. Hands on easy to understand cooking. Lest at a job lost it . This is a replacement.
Vintage edition, Adelle Davis was a true mentor in the healthy food revolution. Her classic books changed my life for the better.
