He does not make a whole lot of the various types of interpretations, however. Barclay's strength is in describing the parallels with other books of the Bible along with Jewish apocryphal literature. It is full of such quotations throughout.

Older edition of this wonderful continual best-selling Bible Commentary series. Discusses the first five chapters of The Revelation, including the famous letters to the seven churches and the vision of the throne and the Lamb. According to the author, John was "soaked and saturated" in the Old Testament so that most of the imagery he employs is drawn from that source. Thus, a risen Christ has hair white as wool, whose eyes flash fire and from whose mouth issues a two-edged sword.
