Eugene Boring ably translates the book and adapts the bibliographical documentation for English-speaking readers. Schnelle's work represents an important milestone in Pauline studies. Professor Udo Schnelle is widely regarded as the leading scholar of the New Testament and Early Christianity working in Germany today-and those who read this volume will see why. For, here, they will encounter a historical, textual, and theological assessment of Paul that is of impressive magnitude on all fronts-a type of work that is, arguably, without analogue in current Anglo-American treatments of Paul.

Following his well-received Apostle Paul, prominent European scholar Udo Schnelle now offers a major new theology of the New Testament. This is an essential book for anyone with a scholarly interest in the New Testament. Язык: english, german. The work has been translated into English from the original German, with bibliographic adaptations, by leading American scholar M. Eugene Boring. This comprehensive critical introduction combines historical and theological analysis. Schnelle begins with the teaching of Jesus and continues with a discussion of the theology of Paul.

Biblical Theology of OT and NT: Theological Reflection of the Christian Bible. This book not only informs, it also generates dialogue-with the author, with his conversation partners past and present, and with the New Testament itself. These are among the reasons I am glad to have a part in commending it to the English-speaking world. The goal of this Theology of the New Testament is a comprehensive presentation of the variety and riches of the New Testament world of thought. Each author and each text of the New Testament focuses on their common center, Jesus Christ-each from their own perspective.

Udo Schnelle now offers a major new theology of the New Testament. essential book for anyone with a scholarly interest in the New Testament. M. Eugene Boring (PhD, Vanderbilt University), before retiring, was the I. Wylie and Elizabeth M. Briscoe Professor of New Testament at Brite Divinity School, Texas Christian University.

Udo Schnelle is a fabulous New Testament scholar that I discovered when I was working on a book on the Letters of John. His writing was a tremendous catalyst for my thought in his earlier work and this new (it came out last November) work, Theology of the New Testament is no exception. I suppose I should specify, the translation of this work into English by M. Eugene Boring came out last November. I was too lazy to read it in German. In fact, my German is so rusty that I was having trouble translating some card text from a trading card game yesterday.

A classic kind of introduction to the New Testament, Schnelle's book presents full and up-to-date information about the individual writings with respect to date, author, place of writing, structure of the document, current scholarship, and themes and theological aims. The book, intended to supersede W. G. Kummel's introduction, informs the reader of all the important historical issues and describes the range of scholarly opinion and literature, preparing the reader to pass judgment.

Udo Schnelle (born 8 September 1952) is professor of New Testament at the University of Halle-Wittenberg, and is the author of a number of theological works. Schnelle studied from 1974-79 in Göttingen, where he graduated in 1981. From 1986-1992 he was Professor of New Testament studies at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg and has taught at Halle since 1992.

Following his well-received Apostle Paul, prominent European scholar Udo Schnelle now offers a major new theology of the New Testament. The work has been translated into English from the original German, with bibliographic adaptations, by leading American scholar M. Eugene Boring. This comprehensive critical introduction combines historical and theological analysis. Schnelle begins with the teaching of Jesus and continues with a discussion of the theology of Paul. He then moves on to the Synoptic Gospels; the deutero-Pauline, catholic, and Johannine letters; and Revelation, paying due attention to authorship, chronology, genre, and canonical considerations. This is an essential book for anyone with a scholarly interest in the New Testament.
For those interested in an excellent introduction to New Testament theology, this is it. You have a whopping 700+ pages of compact and highly-readable information from a leading German scholar. Plus, for those fed up with the new perspective (N. T. Wright, James D. G. Dunn, E. P. Sanders) here's an antidote. Schnelle spends roughly 150 pages dealing with Pauline theology. In those pages, he presents something more tenable than Dunn's highly eccentric and imposed views of Paul. With Schnelle you are in the hands of a master. Prepare to have your Dunn-lenses removed, for they surely will be. Schnelle convinces you that the new perspective is wrong. Wrong because it is un-Pauline. After reading Dunn's "Theology of Paul the Apostle," one is left wondering whether the title should have been "Theology of Dunn the Apostate." Sorry, Dunn, though I respect you and your immense knowledge, Schnelle is more correct in representing Paul.
Now, regarding Jesus and the rest of the NT, buy the book. One way or another, Schnelle immerses you, the reader, in ancient Greek (Hellenistic)texts and inundates you with Greek philosophers (placed parrallel to the other NT literature). That way you are dealing with "primary" literature and not merely "secondary."
The book was required for a gospel class in my seminary. I find it very helpful to do the class assignments. I think the paper format is very useful.
